Snowboarder hits head and dies at Snow Summit Ski Area

A 23-year-old Los Angeles man died after hitting his head while snowboarding at the Snow Summit Ski Area in Big Bear Lake, the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office said today.

Kwang Kim suffered the injury Wednesday while attempting a jump, the coroner’s office said in statement. The area is approved for jumping.

SkiHelmets.org Note: It is not known is the man was wearing a ski helmet at this time.

Kim was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m. Coroner’s officials said the autopsy was pending.

Officials are still trying to sort out the exact circumstances of the accident.

Snow Summit is about 100 miles east of Los Angeles.
