2001-2002 ski season deaths (Colorado)

Nov. 25: 24-year-old Michael Mitchell of Carol Stream, Ill. died after he hit a tree at Keystone ski resort.

Dec. 19: 56-year-old Wayne Bailey of Colorado Springs died from injuries he received Dec. 12 while skiing at Keystone.

Jan. 6: Jenny Moldavina (cq), 14, of Englewood, died after she apparently skied into a tree at Keystone Resort.

Jan. 19: 11-year-old Dustin Brack of Orange, Texas died of head injuries after he crashed into a tree at Breckenridge.

Jan. 23: A 30-year-old Breckenridge man was killed after he fell on a boulder at the Monarch ski area.

Jan. 24: Thomas H. Yeakle III, 36, of Dallas, died after he fell on his head while skiing an expert run at Aspen Highlands.

Jan. 27: 40-year-old, Marsha Krug, of Illinois died after skiing into a tree at Snowmass.

Feb. 1: Landon Sawyer, 18, a student at the University of Colorado, died after suffering severe head injuries when he hit a tree at Monarch Ski and Snowboard Area.

Feb. 1: A 67-year-old man, who had been skiing at Aspen Highlands, was found dead on a ski slope. Robert Littlewood of Park City, Utah, suffocated in a small avalanche. He could not dig himself out because he suffered internal injuries. Note: Colorado Ski Country USA does not count this death as part of their death statistics.

Feb. 6: David Rooney, 39, died in an avalanche while skiing with a group in the backcountry about 15 miles south of Aspen. The five remaining members of the group spent the night at a backcountry shelter before being rescued the next day. Note: Colorado Ski Country USA does not count this death as part of their death statistics.

Feb. 7: A 26-year-old German woman who fell down a steep trail at Aspen Highlands ski area on Feb. 6, died of multiple head injuries.

Feb. 10: University of Denver student, Kathryne Ellington, 18, of Georgia, was killed when she skied into a tree at the Telluride Ski Resort.

Feb. 17: A 61-year-old Kentucky woman died at Copper Mountain after she skied into a tree. Her name has not been released.

Feb. 18: A 7-year-old girl from West Palm Beach, Fla. died after she hit a tree at Aspen Highlands ski area.
